We taking a much deserved 3 days off and heading to leavenworth wa. for the first time . i plan on writing a blog with pics about our time as soon as we are back .Looking forward to sharing

IHOP Yuck Yuck Yuck  the review

Well I do not pretend that I have been overly impressed with IHOP in the past but enough is enough. So here I am Sunday around 9:00 – 9:30 am expecting the same slow service and okay food. The service as it always seems to be is  slow  still, we order our drinks only to find out after 5 min that they can not get there Lemonade machine to work so no lemonade we have to order something else okay we can live with that. We order our food and about 10 min later and having to ask for a refill as usual our food arrives. The first thing I notice is that the hash browns which should be golden brown and hot  are not what is on my plate, what is on my plate is cool white hash browns that are glistening in the light from the oil content in and on the thinly sliced potatoes they can not be called HASH BROWNS. Yuck Yuck Yuck . While I am trying to decide if anything else on my plate is edible another member of our party who had ordered the pancakes with strawberries has made the discovery that is so Yuck Yuck Yuck as to be Yucky, and what may one ask was it ! It was a worm and the worm was still moving  Yuck Yuck Yuck. Now what really gets me is that it was not Fresh Strawberries but Strawberries in Syrup so how gross is that. It of course is brought to the waiteresses attention immediately we are informed a couple of minutes later that that batch has been thrown away and a new batch has been opened and what would the customer like. Now I have to tell there is no way in hell I would have been able to order it a second time but she did and it looked okay. Yes her meal was put on the house but I have to say Yuck Yuck Yuck and does Kelowna have a  Health department  inspector that goes to Restaurants and inspects them .

I must say yelling at the top of my lungs don’t eat there

Go to Perkin’s family Restaurant it is definetly a 10 out of 10 unlike IHOP which must be given a 0 out of 10 . My hope is that sometime in the near future it is rescued by the chain or that they simply go out of business and  I hope this is before any one gets ill from there food!

Where’s the Food

Restuarant’s : Where’s the FOOD

So here I am writing a blog and wondering if any body else has had this happen to them.

Here are my top 3 and what if anything was done

1) Swiss Chalet I tried to order dinner for my wife and me from this Restaurant by phone one night using there 1-800 number

now here`s the thing we could literally see the restaurant from where we were. After talking to a representative for 5 min. that

could not get it thru there head that the address given to them was correct I asked for a supervisor. When the supervisor got on the

phone and still could not find our address here in Kelowna I asked were I was calling it was in fact Ontario. The Swiss Chalet went out

of business within months of this episode. The reason I bring this up is believe it or not a new one is and has opened up in West Kelowna

and I wonder if you can have food delivered to you from this one!  No Response ever

2) Pizza Hut now you would think a Pizza joint would not run out of Pizza dough but 3 Friday`s in a row our Local Pizza Hut at around 9:30

10:00pm did not have any dough for there medium Pizza`s. I inquired from the person as to if they would sell us the large Pizza for the price

of a Meduim the answer NO. Now I don`t pretend to be a restaurantuer kind of guy but would you not think on a Friday night that you

would ensure that you have PIZZA DOUGH  come on. Response to complaint nothing zippo nada

3) KFC Vernon taking the grandson and wife to the Enderby Drive-In thought hey that would be awesome grab some KFC and there we go.

Nope no Chicken now is that not ODD or what they still had the chicken sandwiches and salads. after some talking and being disappointed

we went to the Salmon Arm KFC and lor and behold they had CHICKEN . All in all it still was a great time with the grandson and wife at

the Drive-In. Now I complained and what do you know I got a response there had been an accident and because of this they could

not serve any fried chicken that day but in order to make up for the problem they gave us a complamentary 8 pc bucket with

extra salads and up sized the salads and the fries .

So as far as I can see this happens fairly often which I find totally bizzare but hey if I get customer satisfaction like I did at KFC I will

and have already gone back.

As for Swiss Chalet and Pizza Hut we have not gone back  to and have no plans ever to go back again.

Restaurants Kelowna Perkins Family:

Much like Denny’s Ricky’s and dare I say it IHOP Restaurants Perkins was and had to be classified as an occasional decent Restaurant when the staff and cook were in good moods but for the most part these Restaurants have fallen into decline over the years in service and quality of food.

But I am very happy to say that the Perkins of the old seems to have had a serious up grade from service to the food I do not know when this transformation took place but was greatly surprised and pleased.

My wife and I had not been there for at least the last year and it was due to the service and the food.

I when unsure of the quality or am trying out a new Restaurant stick to hopefully something that can not be screwed up in this instance it was a Ham and Cheese Omelette  Hash Browns and 3 Buttermilk Pancakes as I have been having a hankering for pancakes or crepes.

What a surprise it was with the food that was delivered in I might say a very timely manner it was hot and I almost did not want to it for the it actually look to good to eat but we were hungry so we ate.

Again a surprise as to the fact that it was as good to eat as it looked the Omelette was excellent I found the smoked ham to be a little to smokey for my taste but on the whole it was quite enjoyable.

The Hashbrowns although I prefer to have mine on the crispier side where hot and browned unlike some of the above restaurants seemingly good and uncooked servings.

Pancakes what can a say Blueberry syrup served hot  filled my craving and then to my regret was not being able to finish all 3 of them.

The service was good needless to say no wait line on a Sunday around Noon promptly seated, our server was busy another server saw we were ready and filled in and took our drink order and that was within 5 min. of being seated.

Our server after doing a birthday celebration noticed we had our drinks apologized for the delay and took our food order  food was delivered with in 10 min and like I said it was hot.

So my hat’s of to the Perkin’s Family Restaurant for an enjoyable brunch on a pleasant Sunday in Kelowna and keep it up we will be back more often

Thanks

The Soapbox: HOV LANE

So in Sept of 2009 we in kelowna got the HOV LANE , a big deal was made of this lane for making the highway easier to travel and being more green. At the same time a big deal was made for the enforcement of the proper useage in regards to who and what can use the HOV LANE. In fact there were tickets given out and a lot of bitching was done by the people who recieved them. Then in 2010 and 2011 comes the big no no of no Cell phone useage no Texting while driving. At this time we are still constantly bombared with ads on the radio and the tv about this and yet there is NO ads about the HOV LANE and how to use and when to use it. Tickets are given out daily for Texting for Cell usage while driving but I ask anyone  when was the last time any one heard or recieved a ticket for improper useage of the HOV LANE. It is a Wonder why it is called an HOV Lane and I predict that within 2 more years that the HOV LANE in Kelowna will be called nothing more then the 3rd lane of Harvey Ave. I constantly see between 5 and 10 drivers using that lane as a 3rd lane and not as an HOV LANE just walking across it to our local mall, I also see constantly people in that lane using there cell or texing so I ask the Question why is there no enforcement on this lane. I also wonder why the drivers that use the HOV lane Improperly  are usually  Business People or  Drivers most definitely that are in there mid 30′s to late 40′s do these people feel that the law does not aply to them or do they feel they are above the Law. So I say good on the young people, those people over 50  that use the HOV Lane properly  and if there are Business People using the HOV Lane properly good on them also.
